Type 1 Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes (a slightly outdated term now) is a permanent condition where the pancreas stops producing insulin and creates a situation where the afflicted person becomes *insulin dependent* and has to take injections of insulin to maintain their life.
A person with T1DM lives a constant balancing act of checking blood sugar levels (with a glucose monitor), eating, and injecting insulin to keep levels within normal ranges.  Out of control blood glucose levels over long periods of time leads to many other complications, including but not limited to blindness, loss of limbs, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, coma, and death.
Type 1 diabetes is a cruel disease because it affects many children.  My son was diagnosed at only 23 months.  He spent almost a week in pediatric ICU in March of 2007.  Since then we check his blood glucose through finger pricks anywhere between 4 and 9 times a day and he receives up to 9 injections of insulin on a daily basis.
I pray everyday for a cure.  Please know that everything you buy from PazRana.com goes towards helping a family that lives with type 1 diabetes.  We have to pay for things that his insurance does not, such as gas for the 2 hour trip to see his endocrinologist 4 to 5 times a year, as well as other expenses.  I also try to raise awareness and donate as much as we can to diabetes research.
NOVEMBER is DIABETES AWARENESS MONTH!
